Psychotherapy and Addiction Treatment
As therapy is a field in which there are dozens of approaches, methods, and interventions that can be applied to helping people with mental and emotional needs. However, not all therapy is the same and there are certain types of therapy including psychotherapy which have been found to help in the addiction recovery process.
These include:
- Cognitive Behavioral
- Dialectical Behavioral
- EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
- Neurofeedback
- Experiential (Yoga, Equine, Art)
- Family Therapies
While in treatment, you will be assigned a primary mental health therapist who will meet with you 1-2 times a week, and a family therapist to assist you in creating a plan, developing healthy communication and boundaries, and helping repair damage caused by the disease of addiction.
A main focus of psychotherapy at addiction treatment centers will most likely include an emphasis on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
